We are seeking candidates to join our Clean Energy Programs group as part of the Data Analytics & Modeling Team. As members of our team, consultants work with clients involved in a wide range of energy-related activities, particularly in the field of distributed energy resource (DER) strategies including energy efficiency, demand response, renewable energy, electric vehicles and energy storage. The consultant will perform a wide range of activities including, for example, strategic analysis to build DER portfolios, benefit-cost analysis, DER- forecasting and adoption modeling, program impact evaluation, and assessment of grid-customer nexus. This includes involvement and interaction with utility companies, program implementers, government agencies, industry representatives, trade organizations, end-use customers, and efficiency advocates.
Specific activities may include:
Data management, including collecting and cleaning data from a variety of data sources and performing data management tasks to prepare data for analysis
Impact evaluations of claimed energy and demand savings from DER programs using leading edge analytics
Building models to assess technical, economic, and market potential of DER
Assessing customer behavior and decision-making to model adoption of DER technologies
Developing an economic framework to assess cost-effectiveness of DER and smart grid technologies
Developing technology strategies for utilities, government, and energy companies
Providing detailed fact finding, research, and analysis on energy-related activities
Develop data visualization tools to communicate findings to non-technical audience
Communicating findings to clients through reports and presentations
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Data Science, Economics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Environmental Engineering/Science or other analytic degree
Strong interest in energy efficiency, renewable energy, distributed generation, electric vehicles, and advanced technologies
Strong conceptual, as well as quantitative and qualitative, analytical skills
Outstanding analytical and creative problem-solving skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Highly developed organizational and time-management skills
High degree of self-confidence and determination
Superior interpersonal skills
A strong understanding of one or several programming languages, such as R (and R’s “Tidyverse” packages), Python, Analytica, Matlab, SAS or Stata.
Demonstrated proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and slide presentation software
Experience with SQL database queries and development, web-based data viewers (PowerBI, Shiny R, and/or Spotfire), or GIS platforms (QGIS and/or ArcGIS) is a plus
Proficiency in linux shell scripting, git, cron scheduling, MS PowerShell and similar tools for automating data tasks and pipelines is a plus
Ability to self teach using internet searches, forums, stack overflow, and by reading help docs and source code on github is a plus
Academic background and/or practical experience in Hadoop or Spark big data analysis, statistics, machine learning, System Dynamics, linear and nonlinear optimization, Monte Carlo analysis, risk analysis and decision theory, or consumer choice analysis is a plus
Strong conceptual, as well as quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
Work as a member of a team as well as be a self-motivator with ability to work independently
Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment to coordinate work
Frequently travels by airplane, train or car as necessary to perform work at another location
Regularly uses close visual acuity and operates computer equipment to prepare and analyze and transmit data
Generally works in an office environment
