We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Manager for our Space Technologies group located in Centennial, CO.

This position reports to the Senior Director of Design Engineering. The successful candidate will have technical, management, and administrative responsibility for the Space Technologies Directorate including planning, managing and technical performance of space systems design engineering activities in support of GA-EMS business and quality assurance objectives. This directorate consists of mechanical, electrical, and software engineering disciplines supporting a wide range of space systems related programs and related subsystems and payloads. Candidates will contribute to the development of annual and long-term objectives for GA-EMS and represent the division with customers; ensure technical leadership and excellence are maintained; champion the development of new or expansion of existing business opportunities. Both direct and indirectly manage through subordinate group managers is required through all phases of engineering project(s). Candidates will participate with technical staff, program managers and/or Division/Group executive management to develop and execute project plans. Will adhere to GA-EMS process and procedures in support of technical, schedule, quality, business and financial objectives. Candidates will serve as a primary program interface for technical engineering matters. Candidates will be an active participant in attracting, selecting and retaining technical talent and other professional staff, and act as an ethical role model for the technical staff and the Division, assuring integrity of General Atomics’ products and the development processes behind them.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership and directs all activities of the unit(s) including planning and managing technical performance to ensure quality, business and financial objectives are attained.

  • Participate in and support input for contract negotiations and contract modifications.

  • Participate in the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract(s).

  • Act as the primary contact for the units activities, lead progress review sessions to discuss costs, schedule, and technical performance.

  • Establish design concepts, criteria and engineering efforts for product research, development, integration and testing.

  • Establish the unit(s) master plan(s) and milestones and monitor adherence to master plan and schedules

  • Identify engineering issues and provides leadership in developing solutions such as re-allocation of resources or modifying contract specifications.

  • Develop and implement annual and long-term technical, schedule, quality, business, and financial objectives for the program(s)/project(s) and participate in the development of Division/Group/Company objectives.

  • Direct and actively participate in the development of new and expansion of existing business opportunities and participate with Division/Group management in pursuing business partnerships, alliances, and joint ventures that enhance the capabilities of the Division/Group/Company.

  • Direct and actively participate in the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of human resources to ensure the availability of the required management, professional, and technical talent.

  • Engage in the development and sustainment of a collaborative environment across the entire enterprise.

  • Direct the development and ensures the security of the unit’s proprietary technology.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in engineering or a related technical field as well as thirteen or more years of progressively complex engineering experience with at least seven of those years having management responsibilities. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.

  • US Citizenship is required.

  • Active or ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret Security Clearance or higher is required.

  • Demonstrates detailed and extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice as well as comprehensive project management and leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones.

  • Must possess the ability to resolve complex management and technical problems; serve as spokesperson on engineering projects; and be a technical expert in one or more areas of engineering.

  • Demonstrated experience as a lead engineer or integrator in one or more complex space system development efforts, and design experience in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

  • Demonstrated experience leading multi-functional teams for space systems.

  • Experience across multiple engineering areas, as well as system level engineering integration.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability through direction of highly technical and complex engineering problems.

  • Understanding of Project Engineering and/or Program management and of execution if an earned value management process.

  • Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other departments and directorates, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.

  • Customer focused, must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment, and able to work extended hours and travel as required.

  • A direct design experience of space systems, acquisition, targeting and tracking systems, RF systems (communication and RADAR), space environmental requirements, and design for manufacturing is desired.

  • Direct experience with systems engineering disciplines such as reliability, logistics, supportability, & human-machine interface is highly desired.

  • Experience in Department of Defense systems development and engineering practices is preferred.
