The MITRE Enterprise for Space Analysis (MESA), a coalition of defense analysts and engineers from across MITRE, provides high quality, comprehensive, quantitative insights for the senior government decision makers shaping the future of our nation’s space policy, operations, and systems.

The MESA team offers class-leading Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis (MS&A), enabling MITRE and sponsor-driven analysis and research in all space mission domains. MESA leverages synergies from multiple customers, missions, and technology providers to offer comprehensive analytical capabilities.

Responsibilities Include:

As a member of the MITRE Enterprise for Space Analysis Software team, you will be able to participate among a team of Modeling and Simulation (M&S) software engineers/analysts to enable manual and automated analysis and assessment of Space Situational Awareness (SSA) scenarios, architectures, and related systems. You will have the opportunity to assess commercial and open-source resources and leverage community efforts to improve MITRE deliverables. The software team develops object-oriented coding solutions to author new prototypes and maintain legacy tool suites. Gain experience working within an Agile development team as you grow your full stack implementation ability.

As a new MITRE employee, you would be expected to lead a group of diverse engineers and analysts to tackle new and challenging problems in the space domain. You will organize and participate on small teams as a task lead/member for prototyping efforts. Taking point on the task of requirements gathering, participating in the design and integration of proprietary and 3rd party technologies, and presenting new experiments/ideas to sponsors with a scoped plan of delivery. Serve as the frontline aid in the acquisition and onboarding of new team members for local and remote MITRE sites. You will have the opportunity to present final products and prototypes to sponsors for formal review/deployment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree and at least 5 years of related experience.

Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated hands-on experience in software development in leading a collaborative, team environment.

Ability to dissect complex problems and communicate tasking needs to team members of varying experience levels.

Experience delivering high quality Test Driven Development solutions.

Applied Continuous Integration/Continuous Development pipeline experience to deliver high quality minimal viable products and progressive prototypes.

Skilled in delivering technical documentation and presentations to users.

Expert knowledge of Java, C family languages, Python, and language coding style standards.

Understanding of database applications (mySQL/PostgreSQL), and commercial/open source developer tools (IntelliJ, NetBeans, Eclipse, Atlassian tool suite)

Able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

6+ years of relevant experience (M.S. in Engineering field and 3+ years experience)

Has served as Scrum Master a large (10+) team Scrum Master.

Designed and developed modelling and simulation tools for the space domain.

Experience in assessing emerging technologies and/or novel approaches in design

Ability to translate and decompose functional requirements into software architecture and testable features.

Experience in developing secured applications (cybersecurity).

Certified in SAFe Agile development or equivalent.

3+ years experience in the space domain (astrodynamics, communications, resource loading, space sensor modeling).

Possess an active Secret or higher security clearance.
