Overview:

  • The Missile Defense National Team is seeking individuals to perform end-to-end functional and behavior analysis for the defeat of conventional and advanced Threats (e.g., aero-maneuvering, hypersonic, hyper-glide, countermeasures, etc.) systems within the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA) mission area.

  • The goal is to expand concepts and capabilities for the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS).

Position Responsibilities:

  • Candidate will participate in a model-based systems engineering (MBSE) environment to develop BMDS system-of-systems requirements via system/component trade studies and analysis.

  • Contributes to publishing change notices to the BMD system specification and update of requirements databases, architectural models, interface definitions, and DoDAF compliant based design packages to document, allocate and trace BMD system and element level requirements.

  • Candidate will work within a focused cross-discipline product team with subject matter experts to analyze this mission space and formulate functional requirements for system-of-system level specifications.

  • Candidate will routinely interface with other National Team groups, technical leaders, and government personnel performing analysis tasks.

  • The individual will document analysis results in reports and briefings for critique and review National Team stakeholders.

  • Individual will create and present briefings within the team and to Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and supporting stakeholders.

  • Candidate will work in, and may lead, a multi-discipline team of 5-8 engineers in the execution of these tasks.

  • Candidate’s on-the-job performance may lead to assignment in more senior roles. Occasional travel is required.

This position requires candidate acceptance by industry partner resource control board.

Basic Qualifications (Requirements):

  • This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

  • Individual must demonstrate a technical background in requirements development to include use of DOORS, or similar tool, and a system-modelling tool such as “System Architect,” “Rhapsody,” “Magic Draw,” or similar tools.

  • Individual must be able to demonstrate knowledge of one-or-more of BMD systems or capabilities similar to: EO/IR sensors, RF/Radar sensors, kill vehicles, missiles/interceptors, threats & countermeasures, target discrimination, or command and control (e.g., C3I, C4I, etc.).

  • Candidate must demonstrate ability to think critically and capture concepts in papers, presentations, and discussions. Individual must possess good communication skills.

  • Capable of working both independently and within a small team environment.

  • Individual must have a current, active Secret security clearance

Assets:

  • Demonstrated experience modeling or simulating missile defense applications or similar domains (air combat, air defense, intercept of ballistic targets, intercept of non-ballistic targets, space vehicles, sub-orbital mechanics, etc.).

  • Knowledge of advanced threat systems ((e.g., aero-maneuvering, hypersonic, hyper-glide, countermeasures, etc.), a discriminator in selection.

  • Modeling and analysis experience in aspects of the Ballistic missile defense system (e.g., Aegis Weapons Systems, Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD), Fire Control, C2BMC, BMDS sensors (EO/IR/RF), kill vehicles, interceptors, countermeasures, etc.). Systems engineering experience with large, complex systems..

Typical Education / Degree Level 6:

Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 20 or more years' experience, Master's with 18 or more years' experience or PhD with 15 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
