User Experience Designer

KBR is seeking qualified candidates to support an Air Force User Experience (UX) Initiative. The Air Force UX Initiative is a project to rapidly improve Air Force Enterprise applications by iterative development and testing of radically modernized user interfaces, implementation of minimum viable product interface/applications. It will also assess the current knowledge of human-centered/user experience design within key Air Force programmatic and software/system development communities with targeted engagements and develop a core, common awareness of the approaches and their benefit. It will evaluate human-centered design/user experience (UX) design as broader problem-solving approach on a curated set of operational Air Force problems and capture the results. Finally, it will summarize in a report the current organizational awareness of HCD/UX within the Air Force and recommend courses of action to increase institutionalization based on the application improvement activities, functional/program community engagements, and problem-solving exercises.

The KBR team will provide technical support to analyze current and in-development Air Force Enterprise applications, develop new user interface concepts, wireframes, and minimum viable products through human-centered/user experience practice and methodology. Conduct validation and iterative improvement of existing and developed user interfaces through prototype feedback and user testing activities. Formulate and deliver strategies to transition minimum viable product examples to production/maintenance teams for final implementation and out-year operations and maintenance. Demonstrate and transfer human-centered design/user experience design knowledge and methods to Air Force planning and development communities (HAF Directorates, MAJCOM Directorates, PEO/PMO teams, etc) by demonstrating process and methodologies either in conjunction with application improvement/development or as a stand-alone activity. Demonstrate HCD/UX as a broader approach to operational problem solving and assess its effectiveness in that domain. Capture the depth/breadth of current UX/HCD practice within the Service and recommend courses of action to expand its institutionalization.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Chosen candidates will be responsible for the following:

  • creating, evaluating and modifying prototypes to support evolving hardware and software application development.

  • As a member of the User Experience team, you will develop and apply software design/usability processes in the investigation of technical problems.

  • May develop user profiles, with emphasis on human control, display issues, visual interaction, physical manipulation and task and objective analyses.

  • Provide product usability, evaluation and support to product development teams, including the analysis and investigation of applications/systems including tactile methods, visual graphics, web, multimedia, voice response and conversational user interaction.

  • May assist in developing design concept and implementation, providing input on user design considerations.

  • May produce specifications describing user needs and internal structures for product in development.

Basic Qualifications and Skills Requirements:

  • Experience: Five years of demonstrable industry experience

  • Education: BA/BS degree in in human-centered design, user experience design, user machine interaction or equivalent practical experience, or equivalent industry specific experience.

  • Secret level security clearance is required

Basic Compensation:


The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.

Additional Compensation:

KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short term incentives, long term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
