Coal and Power Markets Senior Analyst - Advisor

This role is part of Global Power Markets Group, which is part of Platts Analytics. The team is small and nimble, interacting with many other groups such as oil, natural gas - LNG and power as well as other divisions of S&P Global.
This position will have substantial responsibilities of research in elements affecting the coal market (supply, demand, trade, and price), the U.S. and international power market, and presenting results in written reports, webinars, and client-facing interactions. In addition, responsibilities include research into developments and growing coverage of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies. The position will also have business development and client retention responsibilities.

Maintain, improve, and develop inputs and outputs for coal and fuel switching markets analysis in power, working closely with other analytical staff within Platts.
Prepare written monthly, weekly, and ad hoc reports and forecasts.
- Support Platts Analytics wider organization, including Gas, Power and Emissions - Clean Energy.
Interact with clients to answer questions and present outlooks
What we are Looking For:
Minimum three years of experience in energy industry consulting, investment banking, equity research or equivalent professional experience such as media coverage
- Excellent communication skills. Must effectively be able to present forecasts and supporting materials to clients in regular reports, phone calls, emails, and web - live conferences.
Innovative and strong problem-solving skills to streamline processes and identify and implement improvements
Strong attention to detail
Ability to assess impact of policy issues influencing coal markets
Bachelor's degree, preferably in economics, engineering, or a similar field, with experience in energy markets.
Expert in Microsoft Excel. At ease using features such as pivot tables, matrix formulas and other advanced Excel functionality.
Successful candidates will possess a strong entrepreneurial spirit, be highly self-directed and be able to work well under tight deadlines
Master s degree, preferably in economics, business administration, engineering, or similar field.
Experience covering the U.S., global thermal coal markets and power markets
Understanding of MS Access, SQL, and Python
