Workiva, Inc Engineering Manager - Service Platform in Denver, Colorado

The Engineering Manager of Workiva's Service Platform team is responsiblefor leading a team who's key goal is to provide Workiva's applicationdevelopers the ability to rapidly iterate on the business-value their servicesprovide. This requires knowledge of both infrastructure operations andapplication development with the ability to discriminate between operationalconcerns and application configuration. Understanding the separation of theseconcerns includes partnering with our application development teams and theteams responsible for the operational underpinnings in order to deliver thelibraries and tools that lead to the long-term advantage of our organizationto deliver a cloud-agnostic applicationThe Engineering Manager serve as a leader of an agile product developmentteam. This role guides the effective coordination and optimization of behavioracross a diverse team. This role provides technical oversight and guidancewhile also managing the team members to ensure effective team functioning andproduct development. Key responsibilities for which the Engineering Manager isaccountable include: people management; oversight of customerrequirements, technical oversight, product development planning, processimprovement, and stakeholder relationship management.What You'll Do:Leads a squad of engineers, SDETs, and QAA and assign roles and taskswithin the team as appropriateRepresents and communicates resource needs and matters impacting the team togroup leaders based on priorities, roadmap, and team capacity; assessand own engineering trade offs within their squad in consultation with othergroup leaders.Works with group leaders and individual contributors to define, assess,and execute and adhere to product quality strategy guidelines.Identifies and mitigates or communicates technical risks to your group'sleadershipCollaborates with group leaders to define and plan group objectivesPromotes sustainable product development practices and agile principlesensuring appropriate attention to overall support burden, architecturaldirection, and tech debt in support of the taxonomy groupContributes to and enacts accountability for the product delivery scheduleRepresents Workiva Engineering at internal and external events; whereappropriate, actively recruits via meet-ups, conferences and events.Communicates, reinforces, and holds squad(s) accountable fordeveloping software within the principles, standards, and best practicesfor Workiva Product Development (Engineering, Architecture, and Product).Team Performance DevelopmentAssesses and documents individual employee performance.Meets with direct reports to discuss and coach in areas including, but notlimited to: career development, assigned product development work, andissues or obstacle that they face.
