Description of Job

What you will do:

This position will act as the systems support and reporting specialist for State Fleet’s telematics solution (GPS and vehicle data). The person in this position will analyze data collected from the telematics device, collaborate with stakeholders, and recommend standardized methodology for State Fleet measures as well as business process improvements. The position will train end-users on system reporting functionality, report content, and identified measures.

Additionally, State Fleet is in the process of converting the current Fleet Management System (CARS) to a Nationally recognized solution, AssetWorks. This position will assist with the conversion by performing data cleanup, system integration testing, and relational database testing to ensure the integrity of data. Ongoing, this position will support the Application Administrator with complex, multi-system issues, training, upgrades, and enhancements.

This is an exciting opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and experience with system conversion, GPS and Fleet Measures, and JavaScript.

Business Process Expert/Analyst/Support:

  • Position applies expert system knowledge to general situations and circumstances to resolve problems and/or deal with emergencies;

  • Position analyzes and resolves complicated vehicle-related efficiency issues;

  • Position recommends procedures for internal SFM staff and all levels of external department staff/vendors based upon State process and protocol;

  • Position supports training processes for system reporting and procedures and collaborates with the Fleet Application Support and Training Specialist to educate staff and external customers; communicates effort to roll out changes;

  • Position will provide recommendations to the Application Administrator for standardized reporting methodology from multiple fleet systems and give guidance to the Fleet Application Support and Training Specialist to ensure that all data-driven or report training opportunities adhere to the standardized reporting methodology.

Fleet Data System Management:

  • Position supports communication of policies and procedures to departments and external vendors and develops supporting reports and documentation as needed;

  • Position will track system performance and document upcoming enhancement details for testing and end-user announcement.

System Project Implementation and Stabilization:

  • Position assists with the implementation/upgrade of system functionality projects and with establishing controls over the system;

  • Position will assist as needed with data cleanup efforts to achieve efficiency and effectiveness in the system.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science or closely related field AND at least two years of professional experience in data analysis, report writing, and system performance monitoring.


A combination of work experience in data analysis, report writing, and system performance monitoring which provided the same kind, amount, and level of knowledge acquired in the required education, may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the bachelor's degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relational database system management with certification in database management or information technology.

  • Experience with relational database report writing, specifically with SQL or JavaScript.

  • Experience training end-users with data-driven systems including the creation of training materials.

  • Experience with Data Visualization software.
