A professional position at Xcel Energy could be just whatyou're looking for.Position SummaryWorks on the Network Operations Center (NOC) team with the primaryresponsibility of Event and Incident Management resolution for Xcel Energycommunications networks. Experienced technician works with internal andexternal partners to prevent and resolve issues that impact the network byevaluating and recommending available remediation procedures, focusing ondriving network availability, and assisting with change management. Developsand leverages a thorough understanding of and experience in enterprisenetworks and infrastructure to increase efficiencies, ensure consistency,and add value by reducing obstacles that contribute to downtime.Essential ResponsibilitiesExcellent working knowledge of LAN/WAN network operations and applyknowledge to a complex multi-vendor enterprise environment to assist with therepair and management of planned and unplanned events. Use of monitoringtools, respond to direct calls, and utilize a ticketing system to addressand document issues within the scope of this position. Member of amultidisciplinary team, this technician role will assist with the changes ormodifications to existing or planned systems. Actively seek clarification orescalated assistance when needed to accurately and quickly address any issues.Work will be reviewed periodically, and will be documented in accordancewithin established policies and procedures. Will be assigned limited scopeprojects or shared areas of responsibility that may include the oversight ofother technicians or project stakeholders.Responsible for escalating any vendor or intra-departmental assignedtickets/incidents according to the standard SLA requirements. Answer dailycalls requesting NOC support and triage incidents in accordance withestablished policies and procedures. Thoroughly document all incidents toassist resolving issues and assigning the NOC incident to the proper area forRoot Cause Analysis. Provides support and coordination for high priorityincidents. Responsible for incident ownership through resolution. Able to workwith multiple carrier and/or intra-department technicians for furthertroubleshooting/isolation of layer 1 - 3 issues. Must be able to followescalation matrix and understand priority levels of various outage incidents.Works with members of various business units or product vendors to maintain orimprove network solutions as directed. Will engage the proper level ofescalation or assistance according to the standard SLA's provided by NOC andvendor management. Expected to meet or exceed departmental MTTR (Mean Timeto Resolve) standards set by management.Keep abreast of technology, industry and business trends to ensure thatappropriate technologies are being considered in the project planning process.Actively seeks to increase relevant knowledge by participating ineducational/training opportunities, reading professional publications,maintaining personal networks, and participating in professionalorganizations.Minimum RequirementsAS/AAS/BS in related degree field, entry level certifications fromaccredited organizations, or equivalent documented experience.4 - 8 years of network management/operations that includes experience withswitching/routing, transport, and data using layer 1 - 3 equipment orsoftware.Proficient to expert-level experience and understanding of the OSI Model.Proficient to expert-level experience and understanding of fiber, T1 -OC192, and PRI circuits and associated network element related equipment.Demonstrated experience effectively managing network cut-overs and equipmentreplacement.Experience in the use of network monitoring tools.Must be willing to work diverse schedules in a 2
