One of the strategic objectives of CommonSpirit ITD is to leverage technology as a key differentiator in the market place. This would require transforming our current ITD organization only from being integrators/supporters of packaged off the shelf solutions to include engineering where appropriate, our own solutions.

This transformation requires a strong health care software engineering leader with demonstrated ability to deliver solutions simultaneously to multiple stakeholders at large scale. The ideal candidate would be able to implement agile development methodologies, hire best talent in the industry, demonstrate ability to implement roadmaps by setting a strong vision by building an organization that has the best-in-class engineering culture rooted in innovation and collaboration. This leader must demonstrate the evidence of continuous learning and staying current on industry technology trends as it relates to software engineering and integration. Examples of these topics include cloud, API based integration, IoT, data engineering and integration, implementing AI/ML in software solutions, clinical decision support systems among others.

VP of software engineering will play a critical role in identifying and successfully implementing all the co-development activities that falls within the scope of ITD Application and Software Engineering organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leverage Cerner/EPIC insourcing opportunities to stand up a strong engineering team in Q1/2 of FY21

  • Explore the insourcing of All-scripts development in Q3/4 of FY21

  • Hire strong a mid-level management team that can drive the transformation and creating solutioning expected from this team

  • Provide a strong engineering capability in partnership with VP of EHR and VP of Clinical and Rev Cycle organizations.

  • Identify and track key operational metrics that clearly demonstrates the year over year transformation by measuring delivered value.

  • Participate in early solution development and be accountable for the overall delivery of development efforts including design, development, testing, deployment and support of various packaged and home-grown solution.

  • Should hold the software engineering team to high quality, on time and on budget delivery of various initiatives.

  • Accountable to rationalize and reduce the footprint of applications and systems in partnership with other VPs in ITD.

  • Ability to deliver impactful presentations for senior leaders including ELT is a critical skill

  • Cyber threat landscape

5-7 years in managerial role; 10+ years in cybersecurity

Bachelors degree or above preferred

CISSP preferred
