The Information Systems Professional is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and support of the plant’s server and storage infrastructure. The Information Systems Professional also serves as the plant's focal point for evaluation, procurement, implementation, training, and support of computer-based technologies including hardware and software used on personal computers, servers, security systems, and the underlying network infrastructure and telecommunications systems.
The incumbent is responsible for projects supporting various information systems, plant process controls and technology needs in the production facility. To complete each project, the position holder works with users to determine needs, evaluates alternatives, develops specifications, provides recommendations, implements solutions, and provides long-term support. The position holder serves as a technical advisor to other plant personnel in applying information technology.
The incumbent is also responsible for evaluating user training needs, and conducting formal and informal training as appropriate to maximize user effectiveness with hardware and software.
Challenges to this position are in the area of selecting, designing, implementing, and supporting effective microcomputer, server, and network infrastructure solutions that produce information to assist users in their job functions, as well as meeting deadlines and staying abreast of new technology available on platforms being used. The incumbent is also challenged by the need to respond immediately to urgent requests from a wide variety of sources and must be available to provide support during weekends and after hours during the week. Additionally, the incumbent is challenged to make progress on multiple projects concurrently while sustaining a high level of quality in procurement, training, maintenance, and support activities. Meeting user needs requires thorough investigation of requests, analyzing business functions currently in place and how they fit in with other departments' systems to ensure users are aware of all options. Communicating these options can in itself be a challenge, due to the user's lack of familiarity with available technology and terminology. The variety in the types of projects, constantly learning new concepts, dealing with various user personalities, and keeping up with new products and techniques in the information systems field are activities which keep the interest level high.
Ability to speak, read and write the English language; ability to access elevated work areas such as climbing ladders/stairs; ability to wear required personal protective equipment and comply with all applicable safety practices; ability to maintain a clean work area according to good manufacturing processes; and have good verbal and written communication skills to communicate with others. Experience supervising others.
Additional knowledge and skills are as follows:
Advanced knowledge of PC hardware and related peripherals such as printers, monitors, and scanners.
Advanced knowledge of Windows desktop operating systems.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Windows server operating systems.
Basic to intermediate knowledge of database management systems including SQL Server.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of thin client and Windows terminal services.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of server backup and restore methodologies.
Basic to Intermediate knowledge of plant controls systems including PLC’s and industrial automation software such as Wonderware.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of network management including structured cabling, routers, switches, performance management, DNS, and DHCP.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of other commonly installed “client” software including SAP, GroupWise, iSeries Client Access, Timbuktu, and McAfee virus protection.
Basic to intermediate knowledge of other mainstream PC software used by the facility, such as FrontPage, Internet Explorer, and Visio.
Basic to intermediate knowledge of iSeries user operations including spool file/printer management, keyboard functions, message handling, user profiles/logging on & off, job control menu.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of computer virus prevention and extraction tactics.
Basic to intermediate understanding of telephone and voice mail system administration, as well as cell phones, pagers, fax, call accounting systems, and overhead paging.
Basic understanding of employee timekeeping systems (such as Kronos).
Basic understanding of security systems (this skill only needed if incumbent has this responsibility at a given facility).
Basic to intermediate knowledge of the Security Camera System throughout the facility.
Basic to intermediate knowledge of the communications network for the Square D Power Logic energy management system.
Education and Experience:
Associates degree or bachelor’s degree in information system technology or related field, or equivalent experience. 5 years experience in information systems with microcomputer-based technologies including hardware and software used on personal computers and local area networks (LANs). 5 years experience supporting information technology platforms including PCs, servers, mobile devices, data networks, and voice communications systems.
