Job Description

NREL’s Cell and Module Performance (CMP) group is internationally recognized for providing the highest level of accredited, traceable calibrations for any and all types of photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules. We are constantly pushing the boundaries of PV measurement science. The successful candidate will work with the mentorship of CMP staff to advance the state of the art in PV measurements, focusing on emerging-technology devices such as multi-terminal, multi-junction, and perovskite PV cells and modules which present unique measurement challenges.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Gain experience measuring the large variety of PV devices sent by labs throughout the world to the CMP Group for calibration.

  • Use this experience to develop advances in the PV cell and module measurement techniques to adapt to the evolving needs of the PV industry, including techniques for measuring new and emerging PV technologies.

  • Present these advances at national and international PV conferences, and publish these advances in refereed journals.

Basic Qualifications

Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.

PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or related discipline.

Additional Required Qualifications

  • Experience with the principles and operation of photovoltaic devices

  • Deep working knowledge of optoelectronic semiconductor device principles, operation, and testing

  • Strong record of peer-reviewed journal publications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in instrument control and data acquisition

  • Proficiency in statistics, and uncertainty analysis

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

Annual Salary Range: $68,000 - $112,200

Offers will typically be made in the bottom half of the listed range. NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, as well as the position's work location, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employee’s salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
