Position Title:Web and Applications Developer The Opportunity:The Web and Applications Developer is responsible for the development,implementation and ongoing support of the Colorado School of Mines web andapplications portfolio, mobile apps and web content management systems. Youwill engage in project work and support new technology initiatives derivedfrom the strategic plan. Duties will include extending and supporting customweb apps framework, maintaining and enhancing the web site, designing asearch tool, and developing front-end user digital initiatives. TheDeveloper will also support cross-departmental development and troubleshootingusing front-end and back- end development stack expertise. Responsibilities:ApplicationDefines innovative and high-quality applications and website objectives byanalyzing user requirements and envisioning and implementing system featuresand functionality.Designs and develops user application interfaces by setting expectations andfeatures priorities throughout development life cycle.Collaborates with customers and/or vendors to clarify and develop projectspecifications, prototype review, system testing and project completion.Integrates applications by designing database architecture and serverscripting and establishing connectivity with network systems, searchengines, and information servers.Supports users by developing documentation and assistance tools.Collaborates with various groups (customers, business system analysts,and technical infrastructure administrators) to address application issues.Operational ManagementArchitects, implements, maintains and provides support for the campus webservers, search engines and web content management systems.Collaborates with other ITS team members and business owners in otherdepartments to support and assist content providers use the Content ManagementSystem.Oversees front-end operations through monitoring of errors/log for speed,stability and performance.Works with ITS and the Office of Communications and Marketing to ensurehosting infrastructure provides an excellent developer and end userexperience.Leads ITS and Mines towards the use of first-class tooling and infrastructureincluding: Jira, Gitlab, Kubernetes or similar tools and containerization.Design and ImplementationAdministers the design, development and implementation of software andhardware solutions, systems, or products.Creates systematic and consistent requirements specifications in bothtechnical and functional languages.Ensures front-end implementation of website, mobile apps and applicationsmeet or exceed performance standards (e.g. responsiveness,modular/scalable CSS, UI frameworks, living style guides, progressiveenhancement and accessibility, and animation).Recommends system solutions by comparing advantages and disadvantages ofcustom development, functionality in existing applications and purchasealternatives.Completes website development by coordinating requirements, schedules, andactivities; contributing to team meetings; troubleshooting development andproduction problems across multiple environments and operating platforms.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree or equivalent technical training, education, and/orexperience in the field of software engineering, computer science orinformation systems. Individuals without a degree may be considered if theydemonstrate possession of substantially the same knowledge level as found in adegree, but have attained the advanced knowledge through a combination ofwork experience and intellectual instruction.Five or more years of web and/or application development experience workingwith multiple stakeholders.Working knowledge of application development and software development lifecycle concepts including Agile and Waterfall methodologies.Working technical knowledge of programming languages and/or technologies,including PL/SQL, Java, Pro*C, Groovy on Grails, GIT, C#.Experience with JavaScript, CSS and HTML/XHTML, HTMLS languages.Familiarit
