PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Lead Storage Backup Engineer formulates and defines system scope and objectives for assigned projects. Also has duties instructing, supervising, directing and checking the work of other department personnel.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results.

  • Takes the lead for department projects.

  • Defines project tasks, details specifications and timelines,

  • Assigns work to appropriate personnel to meet business requirements,

  • Ensures project requirements are met on a timely basis by tracking progress,

  • Communicates ongoing status to management and project leads.

  • May temporarily supervise team members’ activities while monitoring deadlines, and checking the work of other support staff, and accommodates user requirements setting priorities when appropriate.

  • Provides input to policy level direction regarding standards and applies all disciplines of structured system development methodologies to internal and external projects.

  • Leads the design, programming, testing and debugging of scripts, programs and systems to increase operational efficiency.

  • Creates and maintains documentation for systems and solutions as they are installed and upgraded

  • Assigns team members to projects

  • Maintains expert level competency regarding technical skills and tools. Acts as a technology lead to other members of the Infrastructure teams.

  • Evaluates new technology and products.

  • Applies available technology with cost effective solutions to projects under development and is responsible for quality assurance review.

  • Monitors administrative activities including project updates, status reporting and costs when pertinent.

  • Respond to assistance requests from the Infrastructure management group regarding day-to-day operations of the department.

  • May escalate difficult/complex issues to supervisor/manager for resolution, as deemed necessary.

  • Mentor other staff as applicable.

  • Review and comply with the Code of Business Conduct and all applicable company policies and procedures, local, state and federal laws and regulations.

  • Assist with various projects as assigned by a direct supervisor.

  • Other duties as assigned.

On-Call Support will be required from time to time including nights, weekends and holidays.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s Degree required; Advanced Degree preferred

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS :

  • 8 – 12 years’ related experience; or a Master’s degree with 6 years’ experience; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent directly related work experience.

  • Relevant Technical Certifications preferred.

  • Experience operating storage technologies with Disaster Recovery requirements.

  • Experience providing top-level support and administration.

  • Strong knowledge of other enterprise related applications.

  • Expert experience with Backup tape storage and offsite storage.

  • Familiarity with Disaster Recovery requirements & terms.

  • Hands on experience with storage based backup and restore technologies.

  • Expert experience in applicable OS, applications and networking protocols.

  • Strong Knowledge of storage networking protocols.

  • Requires good troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to use independent judgment.

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office.

  • Excellent documentation, communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Must have supervised technical people.

  • Project management techniques and appropriate skills within FMCNA operating and development platforms, including working on enterprise-wide, large volume, complex systems and/or databases.

  • Good computer and keyboard skills.

  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate self-initiative.

  • Ability to lead by doing, and educate other staff on technology and process.
