Description of Job

The Supervisor, PSCN (http://www.oit.state.co.us/cto/dtrs) provides technical support to federal, state, and local government agencies by maintaining microwave, telephone, two-way radio, digital trunked radio, data and video communications equipment and systems. This position has supervisory responsibilities over other Electronic Specialists through project scheduling and instruction, including the installation, modification, fabrication and calibration of new equipment and systems. This position will follow established procedures to provide ongoing preventative maintenance and failure resolution of systems and support equipment, creating and updating circuit and equipment records to fill public safety needs and Inter-government requirements.

Primary Job Duties:

Provides day-to-day leadership, mentoring, direction and supervision to communications staff. Guides, trains, develops and coaches employees in the accomplishment of their duties and professional goals.

Develops and maintains the staffing schedules..

Assist in establishing installation, maintenance and operating processes and procedures.

Assist in the design and installation of equipment to meet agencies' requests and requirements.

Assist in the design and fabrication of new and untried electronic equipment

Provide regional engineer(s) estimates of manpower resources, time, and costs for materials and equipment to upgrade and maintain communication systems.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Education and Experience:

Five years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position, to include previous experience with microwave and/or public safety land mobile technology, as well as previous experience in a lead/supervisory role of technical/professional staff.

A FCC General Radiotelephone Operators License (GROL) must be obtained within 6 months of hire. Must be able to successfully complete a background check to comply with privacy and communications laws.

Candidates must be willing and able to climb communications towers up to 400 feet.

Substitutions:

Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Special Qualifications -

  • Possess physical strength and agility to climb communications towers to 400 feet, climb across tower arms horizontally at height to position on an opposite leg and perform required work while suspended.

  • Must have current tower certification or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire

  • Must be able to acquire tower re-certification every two years

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Supervisory experience.

    Strong working knowledge of radio communications systems, microwave systems.

    Associates degree or above in Electronics, IT, Computer Science, or a field related to the work assigned.

    Sno-cat & 4x4 high clearance vehicle driving.

    Experience maintaining propane and diesel powered generators.

    Experience with the maintenance and operation of -48 VDC systems.

    Experience with proper radio site grounding best practices such as the Motorola R56 standard.

    Experience using bench and field test instruments to include spectrum analyzers, service monitors, T1 line testers, Ethernet cable testers, RF analyzers, and TIMS.
