The Role

This is a critical architectural role to enable the transformation of Lumen's API landscape and strategy. We are looking for someone who is passionate about Integration & API development technologies, toolsets, maturity, and growth. The role will be focused on leading architecture initiatives directly related to Enterprise API maturity by leading technical implementation of API toolsets to create standardization and automation. Enabling the advancement of API harvesting transforming and integrating internal services to APIs as a Product for customer consumption. This requires the ability to prove out tools, technology, and integration strategies to document and monitor its use within the development community (internally and externally). This is a critical role enabling API maturity within an Enterprise by architecting the pipeline from an internal Developer Exchange and Promotion to the Customer Marketplace. This person must be able to understand Developer Experience requirements and relate them to Architecture, Design & Implementation. Lead architectural implementation of the tools and technologies throughout the API Lifecycle. The successful candidate will be able to lead design reviews, proof of concepts, and demos as part of implementation strategy. Create high level/low level designs for work they are involved in.

The Main Responsibilities

  • Leverage cutting edge solutions/technology to enable the Enterprise API maturity vision

  • Leverage cutting edge solutions/technology to enable the Enterprise Integration maturity vision using Technologies like Confluent, Talend, Tibco, Informatica and others

  • Thorough understanding of an API economy and lifecycle

  • Lead API architecture for technical solutions to harvest platform and domain services in becoming APIs as a Product

  • Lead the architectural designs and development of REST APIs using API gateway products

  • Participate and/or lead Design Thinking workshops to continuously improve the Developer Experience

  • Experience architecting solutions transforming internal services to external industry standards (MEF & TM Forum)

  • Experience with Enterprise API documentation and standardization to meet the external community needs

  • Lead the implementation and selection of Enterprise API technology pipelines and toolsets within the API Lifecycle

  • Accountable for the delivery of architecture and engineering projects that fall within the scope of the API Platforms

  • Experience applying modern REST constructs while designing API interfaces

  • Experience building API design specifications in OAS v2/v3 (Swagger) format

  • Ability to provide API development oversight (best practices, pattern establishment/enforcement, etc.)

  • Communicate best practices/standards/guidelines via various written methods (Self-Service Community of Practice to further educational reach) and verbal opportunities (webinars and brown bags, etc.)

  • Experience with API Management platforms (Apigee, Azure, CA Gateway, and similar platforms)

  • Performs Proof of Concepts to prove out tools, technologies, pipelines

What We Look For in a Candidate

  • 7+ years of experience producing deliverables such as technology designs, architecture overviews, design patterns and technology blueprints within an architecture framework

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in solution engineering and development for APIs

  • 3+ years of experience in leading API first Architecture

  • Experience designing, developing, and implementing API management platforms including API Gateways, Enterprise Service Bus and API Developer Portals (internal-facing to developers and external-facing to customers)

  • Experience leading efforts to create technology solutions and architectures impacting critical areas of the business

  • Experience designing, integrating, and implementing complex infrastructure solutions and application solutions

  • Ability to communicate both business and technology concepts effectively across all organization levels (both IT and business)

  • Working experience with API lead architecture, including various data formats & protocols

  • Experience with Security frameworks (e.g., JWT, OAUTH2)

  • Hands on experience in Microservices development and containerized workloads running on Kubernetes

  • Continuously learns new technologies and capabilities and keep up with digital skills and certifications

  • Ability to actively listen & push back/challenge assumptions of client but in a diplomatic way
