Schwab has embarked on a major effort to transform our operating model. The Operations Strategy team develops, executes, and evolves the Operations Strategy and guides transformation across Operations business units. Schwab’s Operations teams are at the core of Schwab’s value proposition: We drive scale, client value, and an end-to-end client experience that delivers a sustainable competitive advantage for Schwab. Our strategy is as much about the “how” as the “what” of this effort. What you’ll do:
The Director, also known as the “Digital and Strategy Catalyst”, will report into the Managing Director of Operations Strategy and will focus on defining and executing strategic transformation across Operations. The Director will partner directly with one of our Operations business units to accelerate development of skills and mindsets required to deliver scale and client outcomes in the digital world. This includes, but is not limited to, moving fully into an agile at scale working model, creating evidence-based decision making through the build out of data capabilities and KPIs, shifting mindsets to effectively “manage demand” in a proactive and scalable manner, guide the planning and delivery of operational platforms, and ensure the quality of our continuous planning process. The Director will be a change catalyst with responsibility for amplifying the Operations strategy and accelerating our transformation.
The Director will have direct access to all levels of Operations leadership, and will partner directly with SVPs, VPs to deliver transformation. The Director will also develop relationships with key business partners (e.g. Digital, IS, AS, Bank) and delivery partners (e.g. Technology, Data).
The Director has a wide-ranging set of responsibilities, including:
Be the trusted thought partner of one of the SVPs and leadership team, guiding their organization through the operations transformation journey
Connect the business units objectives and goals with the internal and external changes in the financial and technology industries and the implication to their business
Be able to help create 2-3 year operational roadmaps for the different businesses
Coach / advise Operations leaders on their roles, behavior expectations, and change opportunities to enable transformation change across the firm
Serve as expert in operations transformation methods and tools
Develop the structure and sequencing of transformation for the Operations businesses you support
Deliver continuous training and skill-building to Operations leaders / managers through a combination of workshops, meetings, and day-to-day interactions
Ensure the application of the agile at scale model through team skill development and forging connections across the Schwab ecosystem
Implement evidence-based decision making, apply thoughtful analytics to business opportunities, and identify success metrics / develop reporting to track progress against goals
Guide leaders to understand, identify, and implement robotics, automation, platforms, machine learning, and artificial intelligence in their businesses
Support the refresh of team-specific strategic plans and integration into broader Operations strategy
What you have:
5+ years of work experience, ideally with a minimum of 2 years work experience in strategy, and/or transformation required, preferably with a top-tier consulting firm or strategy group within a large technology or financial services firm; MBA and/or post-grad education preferred
Entrepreneurial mindset and a keen interest to learn more about the rapid changes in the financial industry over the next 3-5 years
Strong influencing, coaching, empathy and mentoring skills
Demonstrated success in building credibility with peers, key stakeholders (typically VPs, SVPs), and multi-discipline teams to drive action, change, and exceptional results
Experience in leading major components of an organizational transformation initiative including strategy, structure, methods, tools, skills, etc.
Skill at operating at both strategic and tactical levels, including proven experience managing and driving strategic transformation projects
Superior analytical capabilities and the ability to manage a portfolio of projects / work streams
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including ability to succinctly synthesize data, develop recommendations, and create and present materials tailored to specific audiences
Comfort in a dynamic and fast-moving work environment; comfort in dealing with ambiguity
Ability to drive work independently and manage multiple projects that vary in scope and complexity simultaneously
