Our Opportunity:

The System Platform Owner will be a part of the Brokerage Product Services Platform Strategy and Support Team that is responsible for facilitating the modernization and maintaining the viability of Schwab systems that support the broader Mutual Fund and Alternative Investment Platforms. The team leverages its business and technical expertise in partnership with technology and business stakeholders to define and implement a strategic vision for the platform including participation in journey maps, managing demand plans, system design, requirement development, prioritization and approach, testing, certification, and stakeholder communication activities.

The System Platform Owner is expected to manage a team of system Product Owners and Business Analysts with the focus on supporting multiple Brokerage Product Services systems. This specific role will have ownership of the Security Setup and Maintenance, Billing and Invoicing, and Fund Reporting systems that support Mutual Funds, ETFs, and Alternative investment products. The System Platform Owner will partner with operations business owners, product and business channels to understand industry and regulatory trends, current and emerging competitive limitations, must have broad knowledge of stakeholder needs, a good grasp of software solutions, in depth knowledge of the systems they manage, and cross system and domain dependencies and interactions. They will leverage this knowledge to drive and be held accountable to oversee and manage their team in meeting strategic and tactical execution of stakeholder priorities and delivery of business outcomes, identifying and driving toward achievement of key business indicators (KBIs).

What you’ll do:

  • Partner with technology and stakeholders to develop and socialize systems strategic roadmap and a 3+ year platform strategy within the context of the company’s broader system modernization effort, critical stakeholder needs, pain points and business impact.

  • Review and analyze relevant client, business stakeholder and market information

  • Gather feedback from and help represent business owners and stakeholders

  • Prioritize future initiatives based on feasibility, market, stakeholder, regulatory, and financial impact

  • Socialize system roadmap plan among key stakeholders

  • Strive to ensure continuous alignment of stakeholder teams with system roadmap

  • Challenge assumptions and encourage critical thinking across all stakeholder groups

  • Act as the System Chief Product Owner for Scrum team(s) that oversees the development of the system solutions you are accountable for.

  • Develop, adapt and convey the system and project vision to your Scrum team(s)

  • Responsible for decision and oversight of what to develop, as well as what not to develop, through the participation of prioritization and grooming the system backlog

  • Develops resourcing strategies and allocates resource in alignment with strategic priorities, making trade-offs when necessary, to achieve business outcomes

  • Provide and receive feedback on the health of the Scrum team and initiatives through participation in Scrum activities

  • Oversee and approve user stories, epics, and the criteria in which to meet an agreed upon of MVP outcome

  • Create awareness and or escalate ongoing risks, scope trade-offs, timeline impacts and budget impacts to stakeholders to ensure alignment

  • Account for technical debt and prioritization between technical approach and business initiatives

  • Support business implementation process for new and/or enhanced system features.

  • Oversee and provide guidance on deployment strategy, testing, certification, and communication of new or enhanced services

  • Ensure appropriate business readiness dependencies is accounted for prior to deployment which include training and production support

  • Communicating to leadership and stakeholders significant milestones, system improvements, and progress being made on larger initiatives for broader awareness and transparency

  • Maintain systems to ensure ongoing stakeholder and end client satisfaction and continued achievement of business goals and objectives.

  • Partner with technology to establish service level agreements that address product scale, availability and performance standards

  • Obtain stakeholder feedback on enhancements and defects. Manage the process for prioritizing these to maximize business benefits

  • Capture qualitative and quantitative metrics for defining system performance and success

  • Leads identification of broad business risks in collaboration with cross-functional business leaders

  • Incorporate and support Data Governance for the system(s) you manage

  • Help organize and participate in Data Governance activities including data consumption reviews

  • Track application consumption and usage of system(s) data and services for data lineage purpose

  • Document data and other system inputs to the system(s) and services you manage

  • Work closely with the Data Steward to help define and maintain data for the system

  • Develop and lead a team of Product Owners and Business Analysts

  • Mentor team members in their roles and provide day to day guidance, direction, and oversight

  • Build out a new platform vertical team that creates trusts, credibility, and strong partnerships with operations, product, business channels, technology, and 3rd party vendors

  • Set high standards, demonstrating patterns of successful execution, providing thoughtful and strategic guidance in daily interactions, and fostering collaboration, open communication, and transparency

What you have:

  • 7-10 years of experience leading development of products and systems in a large, complex enterprise environment, and developing product(s)/platform roadmaps

  • 3+ years of experience managing Product Owners and Business Analyst staff preferred

  • Ability to gather information from multiple sources (internal, primary and secondary research) and synthesize them to uncover trends that draw out relevant and actionable conclusions

  • Be able to conceptualize solutions that leverage current technologies through the understanding of industry trends, internal business drivers and client needs.

  • Translate needs and business imperatives from product vision and roadmaps for use in setting priorities and guiding the work of the Scrum team(s).

  • Ability to think and act creatively by stepping outside standard convention and identify potential “out of the box” solutions.

  • Apply management and collaboration skills to orchestrate and maximize the work and deliverables of cross-organization and cross-functional teams assigned to product initiatives.

  • Possess the ability to maintain focus and drive results in all business cycles and environments. Demonstrate adaptability when projects need to deviate from original plans or shift direction based on changing needs and priorities.

  • Understand the value of listening to client needs and have the ability to understand the deeper underlying problem that needs to be addressed.

  • Able to garner respect from your Scrum team(s), lead and demonstrate value-add principles, and willing and able to get your hands dirty to get the job done.

  • Desire and ability to bring disclosure and transparency to the Scrum team and grow trust between the business and development.

  • Able to facilitate discussion of issues and different approaches and alternatives, and effectively resolve issues in a timely manner.

  • A thorough understanding, experience, and appreciation for the Agile values and principles.

  • Strong grasp of software development and technology.

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills with internal and external entities.

  • Competence in Microsoft Office tools including PowerPoint and Visio.

  • Prior working knowledge of JIRA or any related Scrum tools preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent business experience.
