Our Project Services organization supports Schwab business goals through the delivery of projects spanning technology, operations, business continuity, and offshore management. Our team collaborates across a matrixed organization to deliver business value through efficient, disciplined and predictable project execution of effective solutions to business problems and opportunities.
What you’ll do:
Program Directors are responsible for the successful execution of a diverse set of projects supporting organizational strategies. They build and manage the critical relationships with project executives across the organization, and directly oversee work produced and delivered by their project teams. They provide regular, meaningful feedback on the performance of resource/staff assignments on their projects and programs.
Expertly navigate organizational structure/politics to influence program direction, decisions and delivery to achieve desired business outcomes.
Act as a thought partner to project sponsors and clients; Collaborate to identify unarticulated needs and improve business benefits; Able to represent stakeholder and executive viewpoints.
Recommend solutions to executives and own all outcomes. Effectively interpret project resource needs and adjusts as required as project progresses.
Understand project interdependencies and anticipate/manage/mitigate risks at a program/portfolio level.
Build on mutual dependence and understanding across business units.
Drive to complete program planning and execute roadmaps. Provide supervision, coaching and direction to project teams to ensure successful execution. Ensure quality and evidence of project documentation.
Ensure program/project financials adhere to and align with budgetary expectations; Able to manage to a plan; Report out to organizational executives on risk, financials, and other key dimensions; Ensure individual project forecasts are accurate, and that variances are escalated appropriately.
Manage program/portfolio change. Take forward trade-off decisions on program. Ensure project teams are managing change to best deliver business value.
Inspire project team members to improve their own performance; engage and motivate teams to go beyond their role expectations, to help each other, and to exceed goals.
Effectively communicate project messages at appropriate level of detail across all levels of the organization.
What you have:
Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years of project management and people management experience, managing multiple large, complex and cross functional projects, with emphasis on product development, systems, and technical environments
Strategic view of program outcomes and act proactively to achieve success
Proven ability to quickly earn the trust of sponsors, key stakeholders and staff; set direction and approach; resolve conflict; deliver tough messages with grace; execute with limited information and ambiguity
Ability to navigate and be successful in a highly matrixed organization (previous experience functioning in a Professional Services business model)
Sound business and technical acumen
Focused and versatile team player that is comfortable under pressure
Demonstrated and applied experience establishing and delivering complex projects
Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
Extensive knowledge and expertise in the use of project management tools and methodologies
