Our Opportunity:

Advice Technology is a part of the Schwab Technology Services organization, supporting the Investor Services business. Our team delivers and supports Advice applications and products used by Schwab Representatives and our Clients as they plan for their financial futures. As a Senior Software Application Engineer for Advice Technology you will provide technical leadership within the engineering team and for our business partners. This position will be responsible for delivering high quality solutions that meet business objectives in a flexible, collaborative and rapidly changing delivery environment. It requires highly motivated and focused developers curious to build new and innovative solutions for our Clients.

What you’ll do:

  • Support traditional Java/J2EE Struts based Financial Planning Application from a maintenance perspective

  • Work with the Product Owners and Enterprise Architects to develop enhancements and new features

  • Provide leadership and collaborate with the offshore teams to get the software built

  • Work with peer teams to get oriented to the application modernization road map and learn the new technology stack

  • Build proof of concept application based on Microservices principles for cloud environments

  • Conduct code reviews and manage code quality

  • Develop tests both from a unit and functional testing perspective

  • Actively participate in release planning

  • Lead projects, participate in mentoring junior staff

  • Help with interviewing and hiring activities assigned by Senior Managers

  • Drive continuous integration and deployment strategies leveraging tools like Jenkins/Bamboo with a DevOps philosophy

  • Be a champion of new ways of collaborating with technology and business partners

  • Influence and implement improvements and efficiencies in the technical aspects of the development process

  • Ensure the highest quality software is developed, delivered and maintained

  • Be a key leader in the agile process fostering collaboration, prioritization, team accountability and transparency

  • Be a mentor and positive role model to junior members of the team

What you have:

  • 5+ years demonstrated real world experience in enterprise web application development

  • 1+ years developing Microservices and spring boot applications.

  • 1+ years’ experience working with Rabbti MQ

  • Experience using Pivotal Cloud Foundry platform

  • 2+ Experience REST API’s and experience developing 12 factor applications

  • 5+ years demonstrated real world experience in object oriented languages such as Java, C# or C++ 5+ years demonstrated real world experience in software engineering principles, such as software design patterns

  • 5+ years demonstrated real world experience in database principles, such as SQL, Oracle, MongoDB or Hadoop

  • Experience developing Single Page Applications using AngularJS

  • Experience with developing and deploying Cloud ready applications

  • Knowledge and experience in web service design and implementation

  • Working knowledge of Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment and DevOps principles

  • Understanding of BDD and TDD styles

  • Thorough understanding of agile software development methodologies, values and procedures

  • Experience mentoring and guiding junior developers

  • Experience building designs and reviewing them with architects

  • Expertise in the software development lifecycle with proven examples of delivery process improvement

  • Curiosity to understand and leverage new tools and technologies

  • Strong desire to leverage technology to build products that "wow" users

  • Excellent team player with the ability to influence and negotiate

  • Self-motivated as well as creative and efficient in proposing solutions to complex, time-critical problems

  • BS in computer science
