Our Opportunity:

Schwab’s C ustody, A sset Services, S ettlements and T ransfer of Assets (CAST) organization is recruiting to hire a results-oriented and talented technology leader with a strong track record of technology-enabled business delivery. CAST is part of the Cash & Stock, Security Master and Fundamental Data (CSSF) Technology group which provides Move Money, Asset Servicing, Security Descriptive Data and other Core Brokerage business capabilities to Schwab’s Retail and Institutional businesses. CAST has a significant portion of its technology assets based on legacy mainframe technology and has started transitioning to a modern, distributed set of applications. We are looking for an experienced technology leader who will thrive in leading and influencing in a bimodal world and inspire through collaboration with a team of highly motivated and talented software engineers in meeting our business-driven technology objectives.

What you’ll do:

As a Senior Manager, Software Applications Engineer for CAST you will report to the Managing Director for CAST; and play a critical role in the following three areas:

  1. Talent Leadership:

  2. Influence highly experienced technologists, creating successful plans to deliver solutions to the business.

  3. Manage the vendor/contingent workforce and ensure adherence to delivery targets, budgetary targets and process guidelines.

  4. Collaborate with peer business managers and the technology hierarchy at CAST and CSSF to develop a high performance team culture and capabilities by managing talent closely, and developing next generation leaders.

  5. Technology Delivery Accountability:

  6. Participate with other technology and business leaders to translate strategic plans and goals into tactical plans and objectives. Ensure objectives are effectively achieved.

  7. Be a thought leader and hands on implementer of Agile based delivery methodologies that enable the successful, predictable and value added delivery of projects, programs and processes. Ensure budgets and schedules commitments are met. Lead continuous improvement efforts to improve process and other efficiencies.

  8. Consolidate and create innovative ways to capture and present Program and Project status.

  9. Architectural and Design Guidance and Influence:

  10. Participate in and provide strategic and architectural guidance and influence the development and realization of a technology vision to modernize our legacy systems.

  11. Collaborate with Technology Leads, System Architects and business teams to guide and influence the development of technology solutions that meet business needs.

What you have:

  1. Education

  2. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent work experience.

  3. Projects/Process/Professional Experience:

  4. 10+ years’ experience with running medium to large/complex projects with multiple interactions and dependencies leading globally distributed teams.

  5. Experience in planning, implementation and support of business application components in an Agile and DevOps environment, including change and release management.

  6. Certifications in Agile SDLC, DevOps, Project and Program Management are a plus .

  7. Previous technology leadership experience in a financial services setting i.e. Investor services, wealth management, and broker/dealer services is a significant plus .

  8. Leadership:

  9. Ability to identify, attract, recruit and hire talent, and to build high performance teams.

  10. Ability to coach, mentor, and provide direct, timely performance feedback; experience in setting direction, tracking progress, and ensuring accountability.

  11. Demonstrated ability to define and communicate strategy and vision and influence across the Organization.

  12. Ability to thrive in a flexible and fast-paced environment, including the ability to think big in a rapidly evolving technology space. Ability to successfully handle ambiguity.

  13. Ability to work hands on with local and remote team members to inspire and motivate all levels of staff towards both tactical and strategic delivery goals.

  14. Ability to drive change with external counterparts and vendors, managing and enhancing relationships and services provided.

  15. Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.

  16. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  17. Technical:

  18. 5+ Years of professional experience building and supporting distributed scalable enterprise-class applications to include supporting and developing applications for server side .Net or Java.

  19. Strong technology affinity and experience, as well as attention to detail and the ability to design, execute and maintain strategic goals and metrics.

  20. Experience in Cobol/Mainframe development/team management is a plus .

  21. Experience in NoSQL databases (Aerospike, MongoDB are preferred); REST and the Web Services space; PaaS and Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF) are significant pluses .

  22. Experience with transitioning Mainframe or Legacy platforms to cloud-ready is a significant plus .
