You will be using yourskills and expertise to define, design, develop, test, certify andimprove cutting-edge software products. These cover a very wide range fromadvanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integratedaircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You'll perform coding,debugging, testing, and troubleshooting of systems and software throughoutour development process. Your technical duties involve the design anddevelopment of new software products throughout the product lifecycle.The Software Engineer participates in the design and development of flightsoftware to support ongoing and future small satellite programs. Thisindividual must have a strong working knowledge of object-oriented designusing the C and C++ languages, and must have a strong background indeploying and testing flight code on embedded processors. The ideal candidatewill have recent experience with at least one real-time operating system(such as VxWorks), and be familiar with both asymmetric and symmetricmultiprocessing architectures. The candidate must also be comfortable workingin an Agile Scrum environment. The Software Engineer will be comfortable andcapable of being the technical lead for software work teams.The Software Engineer reports to the Software Architect and works in concertwith the Project Engineer and lead functional engineers in execution of theprogram. The Software Engineer is responsible for the spacecraft software,concept of operations, decomposition of requirements, design, build,integrate, test, and maintain the flight software. Also expected ismaintaining appropriate performance measures, constructing meaningfuldemonstrations, executing internal research and development. The SoftwareEngineer supports programs from the early phases of program capture throughintegration and test and operations. The Software Engineer will developintimate knowledge of the product technology and a good working knowledge ofthe associated engineering disciplines.At SNC's Space Systems Group (SSG) we are not only the creator of theDream Chaser spacecraft, but also the designer and manufacturer of rocketengines and components, systems that sustain life in deep space, as wellas systems and satellites that improve life here on Earth. The work of ourSpace Systems team not only supports the U.S. government (includingNASA), but also commercial customers and international organizations.Must Haves:Requires a BS in Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or aclosely related fieldAt least 3 years of applicable software engineering experience; a Master'sDegree may substitute for two years of experience.Candidate must be able to obtain/maintain Top Secret clearance, orcurrently hold an active clearance at the Top Secret level. SCI eligibility isdesirable.Excellent communication skills required in both verbal and writtenExperience designing and developing softwareExperience in project definitionAbility to work with minimal supervision on projects involving both small andlarge engineering teamsAbility to work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment withemphasis on rapid prototyping and production of flight hardwareMinimum Fundamental Knowledge, Skills and Abilities as stated in SNC'sResponsibility MatrixStrong propensity for System-level thinking.
