Transportation Technology Center Principal Investigator II in Pueblo, Colorado
Title: Principal Investigator IIPrimary Duties:Principal Investigator II for test and analytical projects funded by theFRA, AAR, member railroads and commercial clients. Provide professionalengineering and scientific services to internal and external customers asdirected by the Vice President of Engineering Services. Leadership and project management for projects involving multi-bodydynamics, rail vehicle dynamics, vehicle-track interaction, wheel-railcontact, and longitudinal train action. Oversee and lead mathematical modeling/simulations, laboratory andfield-testing, including preparing proposals, analysis plans and testplans, data analysis, and report writing. Provide direction to the teams of engineers and technicians performingthe work as necessary. Provide advice and support to AAR committees on issues related to railvehicle dynamics and vehicle-track interaction. Depending on project requirements, travel both domestic andinternational may be required.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelors of Science (BS) degree in Engineering and at least fifteen yearsof experience applying engineering principles, or an equivalent combinationof experience and education. Must be able to demonstrate good analyticalcapability and have significant experience using recognized multi-bodydynamics and/or vehicle-track interaction simulation software packages,and modeling of dynamic systems. Must have excellent verbal and writtencommunication skills, and demonstrated experience with writing technicalreports and project management. Must have knowledge/experience in design ofexperiments, conducting tests, data collection methods, data analysismethods, authoring technical papers/reports, and making technicalpresentations. Ability to read and interpret data, and ability to walk inan industrial and/or railroad environment, including uneven surfaces,such as bPreferred Qualifications:20+ years of experience in the Railroad Industry. Demonstrated experiencewith analysis and testing of wheel/rail contact mechanics and/or railvehicle dynamics. Proficient in the use of rail vehicle/track interactionsoftware such as NUCARS , Simpack, or Vampire . Demonstratedexperience in Finite Element analysis of truck components, wheels and axles. Demonstrated experience in evaluating rail vehicle performance throughsimulations and testing. Experience in interacting with customers, AARcommittees, and suppliers. Proficient in the use of AutoCAD,Solidworks, Minitab, and MS-Office software. Proficient in theapplication of statistical analysis methods.
