Responsibilities

Summary

CommonSpirit Health (CSH) is looking for an experienced Tech Lab Director, who will report to the Chief Technology and Product Officer (CTPO) and help CSH to achieve its ultimate objective of creating “healthcare of the future” in an increasingly digital world. One which leverages best in class technology to improve the service it provides to its business partners, customers and patients. Partnering closely with the CPTO, the Tech Lab Director will be responsible for creating a tech lab, working with internal development staff, health tech startups, vendors, and community partners to evaluate and create proof of concepts in bleeding edge health technologies, software, and devices. The Tech Lab Director collaborates closely with CSH’s IT and Digital team to identify areas of focus in helping to achieve the team’s strategic goals.

This role will report to the Chief Technology and Product Officer and will not have any direct reports when first hired.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Technical vision and strategy: Develop a technical vision and strategy that addresses CSH’s mid to long term approach to innovation in digital healthcare. Collaborates closely with the CTPO and other IT&D leaders to create a multi-year roadmap, communicates and delivers on the strategy.

  • People/Talent leadership lead and build project teams comprised of talent from every discipline within the CTPO team; inspires and empowers people and rewards results; clearly articulates goals, discernment, priorities and a belief in the positive intentions of our employees. Strong communicator.

  • Technical leadership demonstrates breadth and depth of professional/technical skills and capabilities in software, hardware, and networking disciplines; demonstrates a true interest and desire in learning new technologies; a “tech head”; shares knowledge; sets or contributes to the organization's direction. Influences with fluency on technology related change.

  • Operational leadership is responsible for agility and high performance of team which models the willingness, leadership, and courage to challenge the status quo; fosters creativity; and problem solves/acts quickly to activate change, innovation and resilience. Is able to work with partners, startups, vendors, and internal SMEs to strategize and develop proof of concepts that advance CSH’s digital health’s capabilities and position CSH to be industry leaders in healthcare of the future.

  • Innovation: help to create an environment that fosters innovation and risk taking and rewards execution and results. The ideal candidate will have a natural curiosity for staying abreast of global technology trends and their applicability to CSH’s capabilities. Exemplifies out of the box thinking while adhering to the team’s mission and objectives. Create a tech lab that is results oriented and contributes architectural and best practice value to CSH.

  • Financial leadership understands the organizations financial processes; Works closely with the CTPO and CSH’s business development team to ensure proper procurement and contracting; Adding focus on profit sharing / joint ventures with startups; Monitors expenditures and uses cost benefit thinking to (re)set priorities. Focuses on value creation for CommonSpirit Health – this includes IT centric cost management and business results for CSH. Drives a fiscal disciplined behavior in her/his team. Thinks long term and short term while managing finance and value creation.

  • Mission centric value creation: Be a thought leader obsessed with creating value for CSH, our communities, our consumers/patients, physicians, employees. Be willing and committed to changing the game of technology, for CSH, disrupt the industry while being obsessed about value created for our mission and ministry.

  • Evangelist: responsible for evangelizing the Tech Lab’s strategy, mission, and objectives, articulating the team’s strategy to all key stakeholders;

Skills

  • Proven track record as a software or healthcare director at a large complex company. Therefore, understands how to create product strategies needed to drive a major transformation.

  • Natural communicator: comfortable in conveying, inspiring and eventually convincing, key stakeholders of a strategy that will support the CTPO team in driving transformation;

  • A natural leader who can lead and motivate a team of architects and developers to achieve key strategic goals;

  • Domain: currently operating in a consumer company which is leveraging the latest technologies / platforms and methodologies to deliver world class products; has recently worked in healthcare or has worked in healthcare somewhere along the career path.

  • Early career gained in a globally recognized software company. During your career you will have successfully managed product teams to deliver world renowned consumer, as well as enterprise, applications or services.

  • Proven track record in leading and managing diverse tech talents is critical.

Qualifications

Experience

  • A minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience operating in technology product management or product development roles;

  • Director or architect level experience in product or software development required;

  • Adept at optimising technology investment decisions;

  • Experience in Healthcare is preferred;

  • Fortune 500 experience is important;

Education

  • BS or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Information Systems related discipline or Business Administration
