Managed Business Solutions MS SQL Server Database Administrator (virtual Opportunity) in Virtual/Telecommuting (CO-based), Colorado
Cognitell is seeking an experienced MS SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to support our client production environments. The DBA is responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of databases supporting an enterprise application with several components. The DBA will assist with production support issues including monitoring, developer support, environment management, and ticket resolution. Ideal candidates will have experience in client facing roles and success in operating within enterprise-scale system environments. This may be a telecommuting (virtual) role and applicants from the Studio City, CA area are highly desired. This role requires a US Citizenship.
Developing and running SQL scripts to maintain operations and performance of the databases
Providing guidance and support to Application Developers
Creating database instances and other database objects
Assisting with schema design, code review, SQL query tuning
Tuning and upgrading DBMS installations
Writing and deploying SQL patches
Upgrading and improving application schema and data upgrades
Installing and upgrading the database server and application tools
Allocating system storage and planning future storage requirements for the database system
Modifying the database structure, as necessary, from information given by application developers
Enrolling users and maintaining system security
Ensuring compliance with database vendor license agreement
Controlling and monitoring user access to the database
Monitoring and optimizing the performance of the database
Maintaining archived data
Backing up and restoring databases
Generating various reports by querying from database as per need
Maintain the integrity of data/data records.
Know and utilize tools to assist in the management of the database and transaction processing environment
Work to ensure regulatory compliance (HIPAA, etc.) in all aspects of data utilization and information access.
Document all processes and procedures

Bachelor’s degree in an IT field or 8+ years of equivalent work experience
Three to five years of experience with MS SQL Server database administration
Understanding, and experience managing relational database environments
Knowledge of database theory and database design
Knowledge of structured query language (SQL), e.g. SQL/PSM or Transact-SQL
General understanding of distributed computing architectures, e.g. Client–server model
General understanding of MS operating system
General understanding of storage technologies and networking
General understanding of routine maintenance, recovery, and handling failover of a database
Development of RDBMS Stored Procedures and Triggers for complex client/server applications
Familiarity with data warehouse concepts including distributed databases
Experience with data management and data processing flowcharting techniques
Knowledge of reporting and query tools and practices
Ability to professionally communicate: written, oral, and in presentation.
Technical documentation skills
Self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a quick-changing environment
- Experience with multiple versions of MS SQL Server from 2000 through 2019
